As we know, the availability of services and resources in the local community is often a significant barrier to individuals of all ages receiving services to support them in their recovery. According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP, 2014), early intervention has been found to be both effective in successfully treating mental illness and cost-effective for the community. Still many individuals are unable to receive treatment due to a host of barriers (ie., transportation, finances, insurance, wait times, etc.). Costs to the community associated with the effects of inadequate treatment for adolescents with mental illness far exceed $2 million dollars per year (AACAP, 2014). While it is the hope of the Young Adult Coordinated Care Program to provide adolescents and young adults in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock counties experiencing symptoms of first onset psychosis with effective treatment, this page is dedicated to reach a broader audience of individuals affected in some way due to mental illness (ie., themselves, their family, their friends, their community) to provide them with community resources and other tools that may be beneficial for them to gain a greater understanding of the experiences of others and their road to recovery. We hope that this page will provide individuals with additional tools to help those with mental illness as well as those who care about someone with a mental illness. Please feel free to contact us if you have a question or would like to share your story using the contact box below. Our staff will continue to provide tools as we embark on this journey to recovery with program participants and the community.
